Find series you like Check if they are in print. Check if they are in stock. 1st no is higher prices, check swaps or online 2nd hand, 2nd no is learn to wait. If you really want your series, and it's oos but in print, have patience, do not pay stupid prices.Recent years lots of manga have gotten omnibus volumes or collectors editions with multiple volumes bound into one. Those are excellent cost effective options. Box sets are another way to save, but those are very tricky and dangerously tempting - you have to be super sure you like the series enough to bite the bullet.

That being said I do own a fair amount of paperbacks that have French flaps (so not a dust jacket but it still has the flaps on the inside). The only English manga I own with actual dust jackets are the hardcover releases of Akira, the old hardcover release of MW (Osamu Tezuka), and the speed racer manga from the box set.
